What it actually does

Scents a whole balcony

The flowers open after sunset and the scent carries far further than the plant's size suggests.

Carries a story

Traditionally — In the Mahabharata the parijat rises from the churning of the ocean and Krishna takes it from Indra's heaven, planting it so the blossoms fall in Satyabhama's courtyard while the tree itself stands in Rukmini's. It is the only flower in Hindu practice that may be offered after falling to the ground.

Has a place in vastu

In vastu tradition — Traditionally grown in the north-east of a plot.

Where it comes from

Native to the Indian subcontinent and found from the Himalayan foothills down through central India. The botanical name means 'the sorrowful night tree' — it flowers only after dark and drops every bloom before sunrise. The corolla is white, the tube a vivid orange, and that orange was used as a dye for silk long before it was a garden plant.

Vastu placement is a traditional belief, and we include it because people ask. Nothing here is a claim about health. How we treat vastu, and what it does not do.
