Bonsai
Ficus is the species that makes bonsai viable in India. The classic pines want a cold winter this climate does not provide; ficus wants heat and forgives a missed watering, which is why almost every good Indian bonsai is one. Ours are four years in training: thickened trunk, aerial roots beginning to form, canopy pinched into shape rather than sheared flat. A bonsai pot holds very little mix and swings from wet to bone dry inside a day, so this is a plant that asks you to look at it daily. That is the point of it.
