Plants and vastu
Vastu placement is a traditional belief, and we include it because people ask. It is not a claim about health, air quality or fortune, and anyone telling you a plant will change your finances is selling you something. What follows is simply where each plant is traditionally kept, and — where the two happen to agree — why that also suits the plant.
North-East
The Ishanya corner. Traditionally the most auspicious direction, kept light and uncluttered — which is also, usefully, where the gentlest morning sun lands in most Indian homes.
East
Associated with beginnings and health. It is the direction that gets soft early light and no harsh afternoon sun, so the tradition and the horticulture happen to agree.
North
Associated with wealth and flow. Tulsi is traditionally kept here or in the north-east, raised off the ground.
South-East
The Agni corner, associated with prosperity. Money plant and jade are the two most commonly placed here.
West
North-West
What vastu does not do
It will not purify your air, cure anything, or affect your income. Those claims are everywhere and none of them are substantiated. What a plant in the right corner genuinely does is get the light it needs, which is why several of these placements have survived: they are good horticulture wearing older clothes.
